Varley Art Gallery

The Frederick Horsman Varley Art Gallery faced programmatic issues with its allocation of space, as the program rooms were bursting at the seams while the retail space remained underutilized. To address this, the design team at Lynch + Comisso undertook a redesign of these areas. By taking over some of the retail space, they created two new program spaces, each equipped with a wash sink and dedicated walk-in storage. Lighting was enhanced for comfort and usability for program activities. In the large lobby, a new reception desk was designed as a sculptural element within the space and accommodates a reduced retail offering.  Lighting in the Lobby was reconsidered to improve overall illumination while dedicating the existing track system exclusively for exhibition-specific purposes.
