Previously, we worked with this client on their home renovation project. They then came to us to assess their former cottage. Upon review, we determined the existing cottage could no longer meet the family’s needs. Structurally it needed a lot of work to be revived, and as it turned out, the building was encroaching on the neighbour’s property. The new cottage is more centered on the property and accommodates sleeping space for up to 8 people. It also had to work with the grades which sloped steeply up to the access driveway. The solution was to cascade down the slope with the bedroom wing 3ft above the living room which is elevated above the ground to allow for runoff from the hill.

The material palette of the outside is designed to blend into the landscape. The interior has a Nordic aesthetic with a wood ceiling, wood floors, and a wood-burning fireplace.
