St. Cecilia’s Church, a stunning 100-year-old Gothic Revival structure nestled in Toronto’s vibrant Junction neighborhood, needed a Master Plan for maintenance and evolving renovations. We were initially tasked with investigating and preparing a comprehensive building condition report, which became a model for Archdiocesan properties. Subsequently we began preliminary designs and feasibility for converting the basement into a fresh accessible Church Hall complete with elevator access, new washrooms, kitchen, lighting, air conditioning and structural work. However before any interior work could be completed, exterior repairs were a priority including extensive masonry repairs and cleaning, a new slate roof to restore to its original design, and new entry stairs. As part of the project, L+C was involved in coordinating a fund-raising effort which allowed donors to inscribe personal tribute messages onto the backs of the slate tiles before they were installed. The beautiful church is looking to endure for another 100 years.
